This is officially week 5 that the kids have been out of school due to the Coronavirus. I cannot believe they are not going back this year. It hit me hard earlier today when I realized that when Maile goes back to school in the fall she will be a JUNIOR. That’s such an old high schooler! I remember when my kids were all toddlers how I would think high school seemed a million years away. I couldn’t wait to how the little personalities I was raising would grow and change over time. And here we are just two blinks later….getting ready for JUNIOR YEAR. Heaven help me.
I’m grateful my kids have not been climbing the walls too much since we’ve been quarantined. I happened to get a call to foster a Greyhound about a week before all of this went down and fostering Jordan has been a great distraction. He is the 10th Greyhound we’ve fostered and he was a perfect gentleman!
Except that he chewed the wire to my vacuum cleaner in half and when I called to get the cord replaced the repair store was closed until our Stay Home Ban is lifted. And except for the fact that he whines when he’s bored or when you’re not petting him or when it’s bedtime. And also I saw the way he looked at food on my counters in the kitchen. He never snatched anything from the countertops, but I wouldn’t put it past him. With all of that in mind…it’s impossible not to love the big goof.
Jordan has been a welcome distraction and quite honestly basically sleeps all day. He is one of the most loving Greyhounds I’ve met in the way that he really does desire to be with his humans at all times. He leans into you for pets with his whole body and I get the feeling he’s just itching to climb right into my lap if only he could fit.
After spending a few weeks loving on Jordan, I received the call that he had a family ready to adopt. I introduced them a few days ago and as it turns out, the new family actually lives within walking distance of my house. We met at a local elementary school for their initial visit with him (respecting a minimum of 6 feet distance) and after describing my little lover to them I could tell they were ready. They had previously owned a Greyhound that passed away this past September and living in isolation right now has been a great time for a lot of people to adopt new pets.
I brought Jordan back home with me and the very next day they had signed his adoption papers. The hardest part of fostering for me is the transition from my house to the new forever home because I know my fosters think they’re home when they’re with me. I hate jostling them through another transition, but I hope this is Jordan’s last one! And maybe, juuuust maybe I’ll spot him on some walks around here!

Heartwarming! I so needed to read something positive, especially where a pet in need is concerned!
I hope Jordan enjoys his new life and is treated well. Hopefully, you will get to see him once in a while!
Stay safe, stay healthy!

I didn’t realize you’d been fostering another greyhound during this covid-19 thing! What a great pooch. We tried fostering a greyhound, but it was too interested in our cat, and not in a good way. I’d like to give it another go at some point, Now that most dog racing tracks are done for, are greyhounds still even bred? Either way, happy for Jordan. Glad you and your big old kids are weathering the isolation.

He seems like such a sweet dog. Glad you found him a good home and bless your for fostering greyhounds. Having a dog isn’t an option for us.
The greyhound website that watches this shows there are 4 states with active dog tracks Iowa, Alabama, Texas & West Virginia. Arkansas is currently phasing out. The residents of Florida voted to close the dog tracks and they were granted a phase out period until 1/1/21. The Corvid19 virus has forced early closures though, which might be a good thing.
But until every single track is closed, there will still be a large number of greyhounds that need forever homes.
