No Olympics for me today here in Athens, Greece. We did some shopping, but the rioting proved to be too difficult to work around so we headed back to the hotel. We’re at the pool now and aside from the helicopters circling overhead it’s quite lovely. Thinking we’ll put our plans to explore the city center on hold for now.
Tear gas is not my friend.
At least we got to see some other cool things before sequestering ourselves in our hotel….
Pretty views….
A Greek cat…
A Greek dog…
A Greek horse…
More of the Acropolis…
The drive to the Temple of Poseidon with Heather and Isabel…
The Temple of Poisedon…
The view from our hotel restaurant after four glasses of wine…
Shopping Pre-tear gas….
The best part of the trip…
Greece is lovely.
Homeward bound tomorrow!!
A Mommy in the City says
Great pictures! Glad you are having such a wonderful time.
Jennifer says
Greece is so beautiful. The sad thing is that the riots and the tear gas are not so uncommon there – Greeks love to riot for some reason – politics, soccer, bad hair days . . .
Incidentally . . . Looks like the Greek animals are a bunch of lazy bums!
Looks like y’all had fun despite the drama! Glad you are all safe, though!
Loukia says
Sorry you’re experiencing the rioting and yuckiness. Normally it’s pretty safe and drama free. You have to go back one summer to experience the islands… :)
Corinne says
beautiful. Stay safe

Whenever I see the ruins in Greece I am fascinated to remember how old they are and that they used to be full of color. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Semper_Parthenon_1.jpg
Sounds like a great trip and a great way to refresh.
Shabana says
Looks like you had a good time in spite of the protests. I love the ‘after-wine’ photos. Haha! You have a wicked SOH. Have a safe journey back home!
Blythe says
Looks gorgeous! And you seem to be working so hard ;-)
Looks like so much fun– I want to go next time!
Alexandra says
I need to catch up.
I don’t know why you’re in Greece with Spohr’s Are Multiplying.
LOVE your pictures…

We’re here to contribute to the civil unrest, of course!
Just kidding. It’s for Special Olympics World Games 2011. Our contributions to the civil unrest is just a bonus.
Mrs. Jen B says
Beautiful! A friend of mine has family there and stays for a month every year, I’m always so jealous! Stay safe.
Ann says
Wonderful pictures – I’m sorry to hear about the riots. Be safe and have fun!
Cinnamon says
Nice pictures, but PLEASE be careful.
Jessica says
Those pictures are great but it’s a bummer about the rioting during your trip there.
Kim says
Glad you’re safe! They’re going through so much right now with their economy, I imagine a lot of people are on edge. I got to see Greece 15 years ago (some of the islands) and it was beautiful. Seeing your photos reminded me of that trip! Have a safe trip home, too :)
Dawn says
I want to go there so bad. It looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing photos.
June Freaking Cleaver says
When I read about the rioting yesterday, I actually said, aloud (and nobody else is here with me), “What about MamaKat and the Special Olympics kids?”
And it was said with great feeling, I might add.
My husband is right – I worry about everything.
Jennifer says
How crazy is it that the Greek cat, Greek dog and Greek horse look exactly like an American cat, American dog and American horse?
Glad you are safe. Stay that way.
Sandi says
Yes, but do they have an accent?
Tammy says
Gorgeous pics…hope the trip home goes quickly! I saw all the craziness over there on the news and was hoping you weren’t having to see it.
tori nelson says
Your pictures are lovely… particularly love how American the Greek wildlife looks :)
Pam says
Great pictures! Thanks for sharing!
I loved how all the animals you captured them resting!
You didn’t say if you found any good treasures awhile shopping!
Pamela Gold says
I wonder, do Greek cats and dogs meow and bark with a Greek accent?
Kayla says
I’m absolutely speechless-well, kinda! LOL
You should see me turning a lovely shade of envy green right now just looking at your amazing pictures! What a trip that must be :)
Natasha says
The pictures are breath taking. I hope to go there some day.

Love your view of Athens after 4 glasses of wine.

I want to go to Greece so bad one day. Seriously, those pictures nearly bring tears to my eyes.
They also make me crave baklava.

Greece is beautiful! I was there many, many moons ago, and your pictures really showcase it well.
jackie says
Beautiful pictures! I’d love to visit Greece some day. Have a safe flight back!
Beth says
My mom and sister are also in Greece for the Special Olympics (my sister just won Bronze in Equestrian, but who’s bragging?!). My mom’s hotel has been surrounded by riots and tear gas, so we’re all praying for her safety as well as celebrating her trip. She would agree with you that Greece is absolutely beautiful! (When you’re not squinting through tears from gas!)
Amethyst Moon says
Glad you’re okay. I was thinking about you today when I saw the news.
bcIMthemommy says
It sucks that there is rioting around you. But the view of a couple of those Greek Police officers wasn’t bad either. Just sayin’! :)
Stay Safe!
Texan mama says
Aw, that is too short of a trip!
And I LOVE that blue chair. Can you just pick it up for me & have it mailed home? kthx.
Tonya says
Beautiful photos. That sky is just gorgeous!!
Safe journey home.
Stasha says
Amazing pics! Nice policeman :) Wishing you safe flight back and a great inflight movie.
Jenn says
Is anyone else noticing how really really ridiculously good looking those policemen are?! Every single one of them. I need to go to Greece. Now to figure out how to explain that logic to get my husband in on this idea. I need a cover story. Hmm…
OneMommy says
Beautiful pics! I have a friend who just returned from Greece; she said it took over 24 hours to get home b/c all the stuff going on. Hope your flight went better!
Tracy P. says
Sheesh, Mama Kat, when you said you were going to Greece I didn’t know you meant like the next day! And you started a riot? Way to go! Guess I will have to read the rest of the story. Oh yeah, and the photos? I had to click over to flickr and find out if you bit the bullet and got the DSLR. Seriously. Glad you got to see all the beauty without the teargas totally messing it up. :-)
