Last week I talked about how I got a visit from Evening Magazine and how I was afraid the information they picked up here might lead them to write an expose on mom bloggers and child neglect. I had been hoping to keep the exact time and day of the airing of the segment on the down low, because although I seem to be perfectly comfortable making an ass out of myself on my blog…I just wasn’t ready for the public humiliation.
And by “public humiliation” I mean “talking normal on camera”.
Luckily for me Kim Holcomb and camera man Tom were actually quite pleasant to talk to. It took every ounce of restraint I own not to hop in the car with them when they left and offer to buy a round of drinks. Which may have more to do with me wanting to avoid doing any kind of work than it does with the fact they were so utterly cool. Alas, there were no drinks. Kim and Tom spent an hour in my home asking me questions and watching me interact and then Kim sent me an email letting me know when the show would air.
Fact: You will learn just how many close friends and family watch the local news when your face pops up in the promo clips.
And just like that the cat was out of the bag. Everyone knew the date and time…there was no hiding. I think my Mom got more phone calls than I did, “Guess who I just saw on Evening Magazine! Boy is she big time now or what!?!”
I love my family. What a lovely supportive bunch. Except for GRAMPA, who of course I love regardless of the fact that he still thinks blogging is a “bunch’a shit”.
The good news is that the segment aired last night and none of us mom bloggers have been implemented as neglectful. Or lazy. Or ugly. So that’s a bonus.
The bad news is I still haven’t gotten that call from Ellen DeGeneres that I was CERTAIN would come after she caught wind of the show. What’s her DEAL!?!
Enjoy the clip:
And a big thank you to Evening Magazine for bringing some attention to the world of blogging! Ellen Degeneres might not be listening, but I’m glad you are!

I watched the clip last night thanks to SITS posting it on Facebook. I think they did a wonderful job of highlighting all the positives of both your personal blogging and mom blogging (love that they chose “mom” instead of “Mommy” blogger lol).
Clearly, Ellen’s networking staff needs to step it up with contacting you! ;)

Congratulations, Kat! What a wonderful segment on blogging. I am so glad the vibe was positive because there are so many times when mom bloggers catch flack. When really, I think we’re just trying to support our families financially as well as connect with other women so we don’t feel alone in our journeys.
Thanks for sharing!

i really don’t understand why Ellen hasn’t called you yet. I left her a message to do so ASAP. Oh, maybe because she doesn’t know me either. I also have had no luck becoming a professional talk show guest.

Way to tone yourself down for the film crew–Really, it was really nice. It was funny comparing that video to the last one (the little bit snarky one). You are a treat, and I’m glad you got that exposure. Plus, the spot was really good!
