6. List 8 people, places, or things you’d like to give a high five to.
There are so many things I’d like to high five for making my life easier or more fun or more comfortable, but specifically I’d like to hand out 8 high fives to:
1. Audiobooks
I can’t believe how long I’ve been living without audiobooks. I guess I never thought I would find time to listen to one, wasn’t sure how to go about downloading one, and also felt like it didn’t really count as “reading”. Forget that noise. I downloaded my first audioboook from Audible.com about three months ago and I’m hooked. I’m on my fifth book and I tune in when I’m cleaning, when I’m cooking, running errands, you name it. Audiobooks are the best!
2. Leggings
I take that back. Leggings are the best. If you’re a man you might not understand the comfort leggings bring, but you can literally eat all the pizza you want in a pair of these bad boys.
3. Spring Weather
Sunny, birds chirping, not too hot…these are the days I love. Not to mention it brings us a little closer to summer. I still get excited about summer as if I am the one who is out of school on vacation. I forget I actually still need to work and that my three bored children will be looking at me to fill their activity schedules with activities.
4. Athletes
My girls have started volleyball at their middle school and they also play for a club volleyball team. I sometimes pick them up after practice and drive them directly to a second practice. I love how hard they’re working. High fives all around!
5. Road Trips
Road trips are the best, particularly if I’m the passenger, but I really love getting away for a bit and seeing what’s happening outside of the 5 mile diameter of my own home. We are heading to Oregon soon for a volleyball tournament and I look forward to taking in all the Oregon loveliness. Totally bringing my audiobook!
6. New Floors
The floors upstairs have not been touched in 14 years. I take that back. They’ve been touched by our dogs and it’s time to tear them out. We are ready for a quote to replace it all and I can’t wait. In fact, I already got started and tore out all of the carpet in Kainoa’s room…aka the kitten room. Even with no carper in his room at all I’m still seeing an improvement.
7. Working from Home
One of my friends recently turned down a job because it was a “work from home” job and she enjoys working in an office. I must have looked at her like she had horns growing out of her because she went on to describe why. It never crossed my mind that people might like leaving their houses. Even though it can be a struggle to keep everything straight with kids needing me one minute and deadlines to be late on the next minute, I am so so SO grateful for the opportunity to work from home. I never want to leave again. I don’t think office jobs let you wear leggings and rip carpet out of bedrooms during your breaks.
8. My Husband
Pat participated in the 2018 Crossfit Open this year and after weeks of competition in his age bracket, he is officially number one in Washington State! Super impressive. I’m not number one in Washington State at anything. I need to step up my game.

Agreed! On all the things! I have yet to download audiobooks, though. But now it’s on my must-do list.
Congrats to your crossfit crushing husband! Number one – wow!

I haven’t gotten into audiobooks yet, because headphones are an issue here. I’ll be listening something using them and Mary, who’s sitting in the same room with me and who can no doubt see that I have headphones on, will start a conversation with me… When she listens at home, she doesn’t bother with the headphones…
We’re awaiting for the last of our clowder (there are now four, and I’m sorry to say soon will just be three) to depart for The Bridge before we do any major home renovations, and trust me, there will be a LOT of renovations that have to be made, including replacing nearly all the floors and re-doing the kitchen (which still sports the 1970’s era builder’s special decor).
I loved working from home, and would still be working if I could find a job where I didn’t have to go into the office. Sadly, it seems few employers are willing to put up with that, at least in the Atlanta area, and we have the traffic to prove it…
