6. Write a list about what you are most looking forward to this fall…
Look, I love every season a lot. Here in Washington State I feel like we get juuuust enough of a certain type of weather before the next season hits and you’re so ready for that next type of weather. It’s not like some states where winter sticks around for half a year and then it’s sweltering hot the second half of the year. Right now I feel like I’m ready for fall and here are 10 reasons why:
1. Rain
I’m one of those weird people who love the rain. It makes me so happy because it means I can stay inside all day and not feel “unproductive” or “lazy”. People don’t expect you to be active when it’s raining outside. They expect you to read books and drink coffee. As it turns out I’m really good at both of those things.
2. A QUIET HOUSE
My kids are super wonderful…but they do argue. And they do eat. And they do need attention and love from me. I like to give them food and attention, but I also like to work undisturbed and it can be a challenge, so YAY FOR SCHOOL!
3. High School Volleyball
I have a high schooler. I repeat…I. Have. A. High Schooler. It feels surreal because I literally just graduated from high school 7 hours ago and yet here I am sending my own child to one. Maile is going to be on the ninth grade volleyball team and high school volleyball is the most fun ever. I can’t wait to watch her games and relive vicariously through her.
4. Pumpkins and Leaves and Things!
There are fields upon fields of pumpkins around here so when fall hits and the leaves change colors, everything is pretty.
5. OMG MY HOUSE IS GOING TO BE QUIET!?
I’m not kidding, working in silence. I can’t even remember what that’s like, but I am so excited to remember again this fall.
6. Football
If I’m not watching the game with Pat or spending the afternoon listening to Marci yell at players through the TV, then I’m working with the game on. It really makes for wonderful background noise when you’re busy and/or napping.
7. Another Greyhound Friend
Don’t tell my husband, but we’re fostering a new Greyhound friend this fall! I took a long break because my oldest niece is terrified of even the smallest dogs. I spared her (and a Greyhound) from that panic, but she will be heading off to Kindergarten and new before/after school program so the Greyhounds can come back. I’m still working on my husband…
8. My Kids Will Not Be Bored
Okay they might be bored, but I will no longer be the one responsible for entertaining them. They will wake up with a purpose every morning and scurry off to school instead of lesiurely rolling out of bed to play video games all day.
9. A Clean House
With the kids gone, and in the event that I decide to clean my house, it will actually stay cleaner longer! No more wrappers stuffed under couch cusions and in between the blinds and the window!
10. DID I MENTION A QUIET HOUSE!?
A QUIET HOUSE!!!!

Not only that, I’ll bet the house is quiet…

A quiet house is HUGE! And a rare treat around here and I don’t even have school age children. *sigh*
That’s one positive way to look at rain; I’ll have to try that next time we have an extended period of rain – generally though rain depresses me. Not because I feel more “productive” with sunshine but more because the sunshine makes me happy (and, sometimes lazy!)

Kudos to narrowing your list down to just ten things – because seriously, what’s NOT to love about fall?
