6. Write about something that made/makes you sick.
How fitting that talking about being sick was one of my writing prompts for this week because boy did I get hit with something special this week! Two days ago I woke up with a little cough and now I’m a barely walking zombie. Working from home can be a blessing and a curse because people sort of expect you to keep trucking along and can’t see that you’re bouncing between shivering and sweating all day.
If I worked in an office, they would hear my loud barking cough that makes it sound like I’m on the verge of vomiting and they would send me home. Even Kainoa has walked away from his video games to bring me water and cough drops of his own free will! I haven’t gone completely wrong with that boy after all!
Rather than lament on all of my symptoms and ailments, however, I will instead share something I am looking forward to. I’m working on a particularly difficult campaign “at the office” and clocked in ELEVEN hours of work in one day…that’s probably how I got sick, BUT I am looking forward to that campaign ending! We had a successful weekend in Spokane last weekend for Maile’s volleyball tournament and (even though I had to squeeze in time to work) it was quite lovely. The five hour drive across Washington State is long, but Pat drove so we made it to Spokane in 3 and a half hours instead.
We’ve been home for three days and already need to pack our bags again because Laina’s team has a volleyball tournament in Spokane THIS weekend. I’m glad I thought that drive was so enjoyable because we’re making it again. This time though, I decided I’ve had enough with hotels. First of all, I waited too long to book one and every affordable option has been taken. Secondly, my three kids are huge now. We typically reserve one hotel room with two queens and then request a rollaway cot. We cram that bed in for Kainoa and spend the entire weekend breathing down each others necks.
Kainoa says he doesn’t want the cot because he always get stuck with the cot. Maile says she’ll take the cot because she doesn’t want to sleep with Laina. Laina says there is NO WAY she is sleeping with Kainoa. And round and round we go before I channel my inner mother with, “EEEEENOUGH!!! Kainoa you sleep in the cot. Maile you sleep with Laina. It’s how it’s always been and we’re not changing it now!”
This time I decided we would rent a place through Airbnb. After the clown incident, I typically try to do most of my rental booking through Homeaway because Airbnb isn’t always clear to me what exactly comes along with your rental. But like I said, I was running out of affordable options because this volleyball tournament hosts the entire country and I waited until the very last minute to book. MY BAD.
So the airbnb I booked indicated we were renting the entire house. The gal seems quite friendly, accepted my payment and then sent a rental agreement. The rental agreemant indicates we are renting only the bottom portion of the house and as you can imagine, I’m feeling a little misled, but feel it’s too late to back out now. When I voiced my concern she apologized the miscommunication and assured us that she and her husband would be staying at the house for the first night, but would be gone for the remainder of the weekend. She does want to meet us and introduce us to her dog though. I’m…looking forward….to….making new friends??? Yes, yes of course I am.
THIS IS GOING TO BE A WONDERFUL TRIP!

Aww man! I’m sorry that you are sick. Working and wearing yourself thin probably didn’t help the matter. That’s how those pesky germs know when to attack your system. “She’s down mate! She’s down!”
I’m pretty excited that you’ll be meeting a dog though. I mean come on! I love when people are all like “Hey, you wanna meet my dog?” As if I’d say “Never.” Of course I want to pick your dog up like a baby and smother it with all the love I have while my child looks on in disgust and questions my sanity. PFT.

Pat likes to drive fast, huh? That blue (I’m assuming it’s blue) streak running along I-90 (I’m assuming it’s I-90) will be you and yours headed to Spokane…
Hope you feel better soon!

Hope you feel better and the house works out. I read the “clown incident,” and it was hilarious. the “oh-by-the-way-I’m-a-clown,” just seems to be more then anyone needs to know. And a place laced with security cameras? Uh, nope.

I hope you have a good trip and are virus free in time!
Gotta admit, that clown incident is a keeper.
