From my marriage proposal 17 years ago and blogging regrets to what’s burning me out, today I’m tackling all but one of the prompts! I’m skipping the copy/paste prompt because the only thing it will display is the link I added in the next paragraph…
1. Write about your proposal.
I’ve shared my proposal story before, but in short…Pat took me to a beautiful cliff overlooking Sweetheart Rock in Lanai, Hawaii. We were on a trip visiting his family in his home town and had been dating for about five years at that point. When we got to the top of the cliff, Pat was annoyed that someone happened to be camping there, but did not let it deter him from sharing the story of Sweetheart Rock and then popping the big question. Of course, I was thrilled and the rest is history. We were married on the beach near Sweetheart Rock four months later!
2. What did you eat for dinner last night? Share the recipe!
I found a very tasty 20 Minute Chicken Panang Curry Noodle recipe over at Little Spice Jar awhile back and I have cooked quite a lot! I add a little spice to give it a kick, but it’s super easy to make and delicious!
3. Tell us about a blog post you regret hitting publish on.
After sharing some of my regretful blog posts last week for Writer’s Workshop it sent me into the depths of my archives in what has become an effort to remove or make private my most cringeworthy or offensive blog posts. There are so many. It’s really interesting to see how much blogging has changed because I have quite a few posts that are just a few lines long and today would have been more Twitter or Instagram material…not so much entire blog post-worthy.
For example, one post showed a picture of a red and white shirt. I shared that I felt I was in an adulting conundrum since I wasn’t sure if the shirt qualified to be washed with the lights or the darks. That was it. That was the post. I deleted it because…who cares? And I hate it because I know for a fact that I have never separated my clothes by lights and darks. I wash everything together and always have. So I was very clearly just trying to come up with a clever topic and I hate myself for it. DELETE!
4. Write a blog post inspired by the word: games.
Club volleyball season is in full effect and we have been spending our weekends watching our girls play their little hearts out at their games. It has been amazing watching them grow from timid little girls watching from the bench to flying little ballers. They are so much better than I ever was at their age and really fun to watch.
5. Write about something you need a break from.
I’ve taken a big unplanned break from uploading videos to YouTube recently and have been debating how much energy I want to keep pouring into that platform. The same could be said across the board actually for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter too. Social Media is beginning to feel like one of those “been there, done that” kind of things that maybe it’s okay to walk away from. Or just publish to when I feel like it instead of publishing to maintain a happy algorithm that results in a growing audience and a paycheck. I’ve been pouring my time into helping Pat with his ebay shop, watching Harper and driving kids that I guess I just lost a lot of motivation for social media and videos.
John Holton says
1. Pat was much more romantic about his proposal than I was about mine. Although, given the kind of people Mary and I are, it was apropos.
3. Sometimes it’s a struggle coming up with topics, although with my system I don’t often have that trouble. On the other hand, my system is a little too planned out and sometimes I think I should be a little more spontaneous, and have the problem of not being able to come up with a topic. (So, did you end up just dumping the red-and-white shirt in with the rest of everything, and did you end up making all the whites pink?)
5. It’s not a bad thing that your interests have changed and that you’ve chosen to direct your attention and energy toward other things. Social media gets tiring, and Pat, your kids and little Miss Harper all need you. We had an executive who had an expression, “God, Family, Job.” (I’d miss you, so please don’t fall off the edge of the earth…)
Patty says
I’m with you on the dwindling motivation deal. Social Media has become more of a chore to keep up with, mainly because of the constant spin of confrontation at every turn.
A Meme went by me the other day that read “You spell one word wrong and here comes the staff from Facebook Community College”….if the normal conversations on social media were that simple, it’d be a bloody miracle. I’ve had friends PM me over simply “liking” a political post with no further comment shared.
Kinda takes the wind out of my sails for mingling anywhere on the wicked web.
Take a break, Kat….just like one of the prompts, but as John said….we all need you!
