3. Write a blog post inspired by the word: fresh.
And so it begins. My kids had their first day back “in school” and while it was a fresh start, it was rather uneventful.
Our schools have assigned the kids 3 classes per day. Each of them popped into their zoom classes at their designated times and then each of them took naps.
Pretty quiet especially when compared to what other families have to manage.
My sister has five kids and at one point this morning texted that she was busy scrambling from child to child to make sure all of them were signed on, internet issues were being resolved, and that her Kindergartner’s teacher was unmuted.
I suppose if we have to teach in a pandemic, it’s best to have self-managing teenagers. How are working families managing their jobs AND assisting with their kids educations? I’m guessing they have to leave their jobs or their jobs are extremely flexible. Again, feeling very lucky with our current set up *knock on all the wood*.
Here’s hoping for a better second half of 2020 as my high school Junior, Sophomore and middle school 7th grader embark on another successful school year!

Is online school required for you? Here, it’s just an option. 80% of the parents sent their kids back to public school. They made masks optional. (which is sensible since if you make them mandatory, then you have to figure out punishments.) Plus a huge percentage of parents were against making their kids wear masks at all. There are 2 or 3 online options for the remaining 20%. Every 9 weeks, those online schooling parents will have the option go back to school or stay online.
On the topic of carpeting the stairs, perhaps you can find a good looped carpet, berber like, which holds up better to wear or a really high quality super short plush style that will wear better–like hotels use. It’s really flat.

Yes, totally going to look into that kind of carpet. Anything too plush or shaggy will be a recipe for disaster.
It’s so interesting how different states and school districts are handling the returns. Online schooling is required for us, there is no in-school option. I’m hoping by winter things will be healthier for them to return!

I *almost* feel guilty that my kids are all up and out and I never had to deal with online school for them. I don’t know how some families are pulling it off and wonder about the quality of education right now. Good luck!

I feel like I dodged a bullet by having older kids, but you definitely scored by making it through all the years without a pandemic to disrupt learning. I wonder what they would have done if we didn’t have online options…the kids would probably all be at school.

I just love the photo of your kids and their million dollar smiles!
Schools here are slowly, painfully, starting up. Some with hybrid schedules, many with schedules determined by where the dart lands on the board. Two days in school, three days remote learning.
I ran into a local teacher at the market yesterday who had her cart filled with disinfectant wipes for her classroom. We talked through our masks for a bit and I learned she was going out-of-pocket for the wipes and other supplies. Our school district is providing little, or nothing, in the way of these cleaning supplies, instead advising parents to send such supplies in with their kids. Don’t know how I feel about that since classroom maintenance is an obligation of the school district and, with so many people still out of work, this definitely tugs at challenged budgets.
