1. List 5 things you miss about being a kid.
I love being an adult probably more than I loved being a kid. As stressful as it can be, I appreciate the freedom to make my own money and call all my own shots. That being said, there are a few things I miss most about being a kid:
1. Someone Did All The Cooking
Growing up I don’t think I realized that I would one day become a short-order chef. That every grocery list and every meal would be forever and ever created and executed by me. The family chef is so underrated. I miss having one of my own!
2. Someone Did All The Cleaning
I miss living in a clean house that was cleaned by someone else. Now, my mom got plenty annoyed and hounded us to clean up our own messes, but ultimately she was the one scrubbing everything. Now I’m the one who is supposed to be scrubbing everything and I would appreciate it so much more if it were just magically done without my efforts.
3. I Only Had Myself To Worry About
What was I hungry for? What did I want to watch on TV? Where would me and my friends hang out for the weekend? Do I have practice today? The only thing I had to be concerned about was my own well being. Sounds kind of boring actually, but sometimes boring is nice!
4. Eating Whatever I Wanted
I wouldn’t mind if that kid metabolism hung around a bit longer. We ate fast food for lunch almost everyday and didn’t gain a pound. Nowadays if I so much as SMELL fast food I’m 30 pounds heavier the next day. Facts.
5. Hanging Out With Friends
After seeing my friends at school all day and then playing with them in sports after school, I would then go home and call them on the phone. Friends were everything and we were always making plans for the next fun thing to do together even if that was just hanging out in one of our bedrooms chatting. We laughed so much! I miss having that close network of girls.
But we all grew up! We became cookers and cleaners and worriers who work to provide those same luxuries of happy childhoods for our own children. Time marches on!
The Prompts:
1. List 5 things you miss about being a kid.
2. If you could live the rest of your life at an age of your choosing, what age would you choose and why?
3. Write a blog post inspired by the word: surprise
4. Share something you are looking forward to.
5. Write about a time you broke a rule.

Is that you on the right, in the red sweater? I’m going by height…
Mama Kat says
That catholic school picture does show me on the right! You couldn’t go by height these days because the guy in the middle is 6’9″ now (just look at the size of his head!) and my sister is just slightly taller than me too. Bunch of bean sprouts!

All of THIS!
I remember a middle school teacher forlornly telling us that we likely had more friends in that time of our lives than we would ever have again. Damn if he wasn’t right.
I also vaguely remember eating pizza with my large group of friends at midnight, then getting up the next day and easily putting on my jeans. It’s probably for the best that we didn’t know.
