3. Write about that time you ran away from home.
I never ran away from home. There were plenty of times I would have liked to make my mom feel terrible for yelling at me, but it’s one of those threats I just knew I couldn’t follow through on. I do not like exercise, so walking far away from home sounded exhausting from the jump. I also do not like being exposed to the elements and without adequate shelter, I was bound to get too cold or too hot depending on the season. Finally, I enjoy a hot meal. As mad as I could ever be at my Mom, it was worth enduring her for access to her spaghetti.
My sister on the other hand, did run away from home. I curled up on the couch and cried. It was Christmas time because I remember staring at the train ornament she made in class with her picture on it and thinking it was the only picture I had of her and how I would treasure that ornament for years to come.
I couldn’t believe she was gone. She was only eight years old with nothing but the coat on her back to keep her warm. I couldn’t believe my mother didn’t CARE. She just putzed around the kitchen like this was nothing to be concerned about. My poor poor darling sweet sister…for just a moment I wondered if this meant I could inherit her Barbie collection. Did this mean her relatively untouched My Little Ponies would now be mine? Would I finally have my own room? Did my wardrobe just double in size!?!
And then she came back.
I was…so…glad.

That’s a very sweet note from Laina to Maile. I can’t remember: which is the older? It took me a minute to realize that you were speaking thru one of them. Geat story!

Whoever is living there is keeping it nicely updated! Pat and I went to an estate sale in the neighborhood the other weekend so I had to take a tour and snapped that pic. :)
