1. Tell us about something you are “addicted” to.
I don’t understand coffee or what it is about it that just feels so good? It feels like home. Which is so strange because I didn’t even start drinking it until after Kainoa was born. I don’t know where I thought I was all those non-coffee drinking years, but I most certainly was not home.
And if we’re being honest, it’s not really that tasty. I like milkshakes much more. And yet, you’ll never see me craving a milkshake in the morning.
“Don’t even TRY to speak to me before I’ve had my milkshake! I absolutely cannot function!”
If it’s the warmth and comfort coffee brings then why doesn’t hot cocoa or a bowl of soup do the same thing? Why don’t we put a pot of chicken noodle soup on the oven every morning and update our Facebook status with things like “Running on low…need more chicken noodle soup!” or “Walked out of the house wearing two different shoes…remind me not to skip my soup in the morning!” or “trying to cut down to just one cup of soup a day…already failed!”
It doesn’t work.
We love our coffee. We dress it up, add milk, flavored syrups, creamers, put it on ice, pin coffee quotes, invite friends over to share, collect coffee mugs, make coffee jokes and fancy up the name. Cappuccino, Americano, Frappuccino, Mocha Latte Breve Espresso Grande…we have to have it. It makes us happy and warm and excited and happy…and not to mention I can get quite a headache when I go without.
Aw crap, I think understand coffee now.
I have an addiction, don’t I?

I can totally relate to being “addicted” despite not even really liking the taste of coffee. I started drinking it as early as age six or so and the photo my parents took of me with one of my first cups of coffee shows me with a disgusted face. I know it’s supposed to be an acquired taste, but I never acquired the taste even nearly thirty years on, and yet I cannot imagine myself going a day without coffee. By the way, I think you did something wrong with the linky, as it says it’s not open yet and won’t open till more than six days from now.

It really is NOT that tasty! I do like milkshakes better, but here I am still drinking it twice a day. I definitely did not like it at a young age either. But I love the smell of it! (I think I fixed the linky!)

Omigosh, I now realize I have an addiction too.
Just kidding, I already knew, but this solidifies it.

Astrid’s right: the Linky is shut down until next week.
Interestingly enough, I can’t function without coffee, either, and for health reasons I only drink decaf.. There’s something about it that just says “Time to boogie!” Maybe it’s psychological…
A friend of mine told me that his mother gave up coffee for Lent one year, and that the rest of the family suffered…

I think I fixed the linky! Thanks for the heads up. :) My mom drinks decaf and I have wondered if there is something psychological about it. I bet you could switch my coffee and I would have no idea.
