1. Write about a memorable Mother’s Day.
I gave birth to two very sweet, obedient and shy little girls and then I had Kainoa. Kainoa is my limit pusher, my rule breaker, my last straw and my most creative negotiator. I know back in the day some of his antics really drove me crazy, but he keeps things so colorful and funny at the same time. Many of my favorite Mother’s Day moments include his spin on what was supposed to be my special holdiay, including the Mother’s Day where I had to earn my gift by being as nice to him as possible all day long.
In fact, it was that Mother’s Day when I was given three “tallies.” Three chances to be nice for the whole day and he would take a tally away if I was mean. If I was mean three times then I would not earn my Mother’s Day gift.
By 9am I lost 1 Tally because I told him I was not going to buy him a gift at the grocery store.
By 11am I lost my 2nd Tally because I told him to stop pushing our dog down.
At 11:14am I lost my 3rd Tally because I told him to knock it off while he struggled to yank a blanket off his snuggled up sister.
So I reversed his tally system and told him for every tally I take from him it’s one less gift he’ll get for his birthday this summer.
I took one tally away for whining about not getting a toy from the grocery store.
I took one tally for pushing our dog down.
And I took one tally for yanking a blanket off his snuggled-up sister.
By the end of the day he couldn’t keep the gift from me any longer because he had been anxious for me to see how great it turned out. It was a puzzle piece that was painted gold and bedazzled with rhinestones and ribbons. It was definitely worth the wait!

Quite a little conniver, isn’t he? And you love him, I can tell.

Ooh, I think this applies to the second prompt as well. Allllll day!? Nice bling!

Kainoa SO reminds me of our son! I’ve always labeled him a “bee charmer”, having the ability to twist and turn issues in a favorable direction.
This was such a sweet story, Kat. Thanks for sharing….hugs to Kainoa!!
