2. Write about a time someone on the internet yelled at you.
I was challenged with the task of pranking my children with Go-Gurt as part of a sponsored video back in 2016. Let me tell you, sometimes these companies ask influencers to do weird things in their attempt to think outside of the box and catch some attention online. And of course, my kids like Go-Gurt and I did not want to turn down the opportunity to make a little cash even though the whole idea seemed a little corny.
After some serious thought about how on earth I might prank my kids with a snack, I decided I could snip the bottom of the Go-Gurt tube with the idea that when a child squeezed the tube, the Go-Gurt would plop out the bottom. So silly right!?
Well the internet HATED it. The video was uploaded to Facebook and received over a million views and the comments got nasty. I was being canceled for wasting Go-Gurt. I definitely took some heat from people yelling at me on the internet that week! So many people were in an uproar over the bit of Go-gurt that spilled out. They didn’t like that I was so privileged to waste food while children in the world go hungry, they didn’t like that I made a mess to clean up, and they didn’t like that I was wasting money on an expensive snack only to spill it all over the floor.
Lord have mercy!
The video is here if you’d like to take a look. I’ll see if I can embed it from Facebook:
I was stunned at how angry people got when it was such a small, silly blop of yogurt. If we’re all being honest, I venture to guess we’ve all be guilty of wasting more food than that. The ends of a loaf of bread? Cutting crust off sandwiches? Those leftovers that no one re-heated? Squeezing too much ketchup on your plate? Not being able to finish a can of pop? Pouring liquor out on the ground for homies gone too soon? The list goes on!
At the end of the day I got my check, I believe it was $100 for the 30-second video and I’m sure I bought a lot of vodka with it to escape the backlash on Facebook that week. I probably chased it down with Go-Gurt.
Now it’s your turn!

John Holton says
Oh for God’s sake… some people have no sense of humor. As a guy I used to work with used to say, “[screw] them if they can’t take a joke.”
