1. Share one of the first news stories you remember caring about.
It was October 14, 1987 and I was eight years old. The story of baby Jessica falling down a well is the first news story I ever remember paying attention to. Baby Jessica was on every news channel and I’m sure our class was probably praying for her. How a baby fell down the well in the first place was just beyond me. I mean just look at it…how does an 18 month old fit in that?
And then being stuck there for TWO days? Forget about it.
I was relieved with the rest of the country when Baby Jessica was safely pulled from that damn well and to this day I try to avoid them at all costs. Which is hard because they’re so common.
So where has Baby Jessica been since 1987?
After a slew of magazine covers and TV appearances…
Baby Jessica turned into a regular old teenager…
She graduated…
And she became a Mom…
I was eight years old when the story hit the news and 26 years later I’m STILL thinking about it!
Now it’s your turn!

When I first looked at the list of prompts, I recalled my parents telling me about an incident, similar to baby Jessica, from when I was much younger, and the story always terrified me. I must have been five or six when I heard about it, several years after it had taken place. Sadly, the child, Kathy Fiscus, did not survive.
I thought about baby Jessica’s rescue and like that you chose to write about her., Well done, Kat!

Omigosh, I totally remember! I was actually a *COUGH* few years older than eight, but what a story. I was in college and recall a few Baby Jessicas that year for Halloween 😬
Thanks for the where-is-she-now update!

Nice to see that Jessica has grown up to have a pretty normal life. That was right around the time Mary and I moved to Atlanta, so I didn’t give it much attention at the time.
