4. Write a blog post about a time a sibling included you in a bad idea.
“Kathy!?! I’m gonna need your help with this!”
I was always taking one for the team. Fessing up to rules I didn’t break so that my siblings would not suffer the punishment. I was usually the likely candidate anyways.
In this case, my 12 year old big sister had decided she should make dinner for my younger siblings and I, and spaghetti was just what the Iron Chef ordered. She was always a little too excited to take charge of the dinner prep.
“You need to hold the strainer in place over the sink while I dump this boiling pot of hot noodles into it.”
I was unsure of this idea. I mean, it was a BOILING POT OF HOT NOODLES after all, but I accepted the challenge anyway.
“Just hold it over the sink and then I’m just gonna…pouuuur them in…”
So I held it steady until the hot water and the steam and the HOTNESS surrounded my hands and forearms and I was all “Oh my Gah this is HOT!! It’s burning! OW! Seriously…so…HOT!!!”
Her giggling did not escape me but I’m not sure if she was laughing at the scenario in general or if she had set me up. She was not the pranking type so I think she thought this was the way to do it, “Just one second they’re almost all out!”
I hung in there like a champ because I didn’t want to spill all those noodles and then have no spaghetti to actually eat.
But now I’m grown.
And I’m not kidding when I say that every time I pour noodles into a strainer I wonder why in the world the two of us thought ANYONE needed to be actually HOLDING the strainer while the boiling pot of noodles was poured into it.
Why did it not occur to us to simply set the strainer in the sink and then pour?
I’ll never know, but it wasn’t the first or last time that I learned a valuable lesson from our bad ideas.
Now it’s your turn!
