Three days a week I go to my friend Kristi’s house and essentially am a nanny for her son. He’s become my little bestie and he calls me Aunty Kaka so he basically belongs to me now. Kristi and her husband Zack live nestled in on a nice chunk of property and have been working really hard to homestead their land. They built a beautiful garden, they have a beautiful greenhouse, they’re building a chicken coop and they are hatching birds in a guest room. They have a youtube channel where they share a lot of their progress and setbacks and I come in handy as a babysitter because…well it can be challenging to build a chicken coop, film it and edit the video with a toddler underfoot.
Most recently they ordered quail eggs that were supposed to arrive in May. They picked up baby chickens in February and currently have about 7 living in a little playpen. The day after the chicks arrived a shipment of 30 quail eggs arrived early and those birds are currently hatching in an incubator. They decided to live stream the hatching and while many of the babies are still stuck in their eggs, I have been glued to the livestream when I’m home. It’s weirdly mesmerizing watching them! Alas, my little boss keeps me very busy taking walks, eating fake chocolate cake and reading the same book at least 12 times over before moving on to a new one. ;) So I save most of my viewing for after hours:

The miracle of life. It is kinda cool watching the birdies hatch, though I wasn’t going to sit there for nine hours…
Abby says
Came over to see what’s happening in your world, ended up losing track of time watching quail babies.

All I can say is that I prefer watching happy eggs as opposed to watching unhappy egg prices which keep emerging at the supermarket.
I’d love to see more of Kristi and Jack’s creativity….that greenhouse is awesome!
