3. Share a childhood story about a performance.
My oldest sister was putting together a lip sync performance with her best friends for their high school talent show. This was before you actually had to sing to prove you had any actual talent. They faux sang to a medley of oldies, but the finale of their show was when my cute little sister hit the stage with them singing a children’s version of Stupid Cupid. Tell me you remember the Mini Pops?
Night after night I watched them practice in the family room. Stupid Cupid…how fitting for my stupid sister (slightly jealous). Why was she so dang cute and loveable to everyone? I would have killed that song if they had selected me for the performance instead. But I was older and awkward and let’s be honest, way too shy to ever perform in front of an auditorium filled with high schoolers.
My little sister had the ‘it’ factor. She could do it, she would love it and she would nail it. Her last choreographed move to end the medley was to hop onto a stool at the very end of the song. “Stupid CupID (hop onto stool) stop pickin on me!” Her little ponytail would bounce with her in perfect unison and it was darling. She had gone over it plenty, but when it was show time everything went wrong. She hopped onto the stool on queue and then fell right off.
I have to admit even my cold cold heart melted a bit when I saw her crying on the floor next to the stool in front of everyone. (Thank God it wasn’t me after all!) Although I couldn’t help but think this was the karma the whole squad deserved for not including me. The performance was clearly a failure without me in it.
But to my astonishment, the crowd ate. it. up!! They loved the fall. They loved the performance. And they loved the cute crying little girl. Even when she messed up she somehow still came out on top. First place was awarded to Stupid Cupid!
I learned a valuable lesson about the power of a girl’s tears that day.
And how sometimes missing the stool hurts for a minute and you feel embarrassed, but it really ends up being the best thing that could have happened. It’s just hard to tell sometimes when you’re sitting there on the floor crying about it.

That so reminds me of myself; my younger sister always did little performances in the living room and I was too awkward to ever do that. Funny part is these days, she’d rather be invisible than ever perform in front of people!

My sister is the same! She is not eager to be the center of attention at all.

First person to record “Stupid Cupid” was Connie Francis. Little Joanna here was a little heartbreaker….
So the big picture is you standing and little sister sitting, right? Cute picture!

Yes, that’s me standing and her sitting. :) We had the cassette of mini bops and they covered all kind of old school goodies!
