1. Happy 4th of July! Share how you celebrated the fourth!
We celebrated the red, white and blue yesterday at my sister in laws cabin. Pat has four sisters, one of them lives here in Washington State and the other three are visiting from Hawaii. He calls them a sorority and I thoroughly enjoy their storytelling and giggling.
Last night I learned that Pat’s great-great (however many greats I can’t remember) grandfather came to Hawaii from England and married a Hawaiian woman (Pat’s however many greats grandmother) and they had a baby together.
Apparently he had to head back to England on business matters, got sick and died. But before dying he asked his brother to go back to Hawaii and take care of his wife and child. So little brother did his brotherly duty and also fell in love with the woman while he was at it.
They got married and had several more children together! In fact, the marriage was documented in some seaman’s published journal since the happy couple was married on his boat (naval ship?) and he referred to the young lady as a delicious treat of a woman. Salacious!
It was a lovely evening filled with happy children, hot dogs, and loud fireworks…but the best part by far was the salacious storytelling.

That picture of you and your daughter is great. I don’t know if that’s Maile or Laina, but she’s absolutely gorgeous. And is that Kainoa with Pat? He’s gotten quite big, if so.
I wasn’t sure you meant to say “salacious,” but the more I read the story, the more I realize that yes, you meant it… Makes my family seem downright boring…
