Laina complained about heart palpitations while playing volleyball and when she couldn’t catch a breath one night we popped over to the ER.
They ran some tests and were like “we’re not seeing anything, could be stress induced…but she should see our cardiologist Dr. Smith as soon as possible just to be safe.”
I called Dr. Smith’s cardiologist office and they were like “sorry, we don’t have a referral and we can’t see her until we have one.”
So I called the number on our release forms and was like “can you please send the referral to Dr. Smith so we can make that cardiology appointment you recommended “as soon as possible”?”
They were like, “Oh you need to talk to the main hospital for that, I’ll transfer you.”
I re explained my request to the Main Hospital and they pulled up her info and said, “oh yes, I see how we recommended that Laina should see Dr. Smith as soon as possible but actually we can’t give that referral, you need to go to her primary doctor and tell them what we said and tell them about our tests and how she visited us and tell them to send a referral to see Dr. Smith.”
So now I need to make an additional appointment with a primary care doctor who can then hopefully make a real referral so that I can finally schedule an appointment that will more than likely not even be available for at least 2 months from now in an effort to get Laina seen “as soon as possible” FINALLY.

I’m concerned, and angry.
Laina experiencing what she is should not involve having to wade through this damn medical appointment scheduling protocol.
I’m certainly no doctor but, working with one in the alternative medical field, I can attest to seeing patients regularly with similar symptoms which encompass palpitations, dizziness and an unsteady gait…with NO verifiable physical issues that cause said symptoms. Hell, I have them as well and it’s not due to age or other issues, it’s been an almost two year issue I’ve experienced since getting vaxxed. I don’t know if Laina has received the vaccine but it might be something to consider…and find someone who will do the right testing and provide an acceptable diagnosis.
My prayers are with Laina, and you, for getting prompt answers and necessary treatment.
Sorry for lecturing, Kat.

Oh believe me I have been side eyeing the vaccine since day one. Maile also has heart palpitations we need to have looked at that were discovered in her last sports physical. However, Maile did pass out in a game before she was vaccinated (all of us were vaccinated after about a year of holding out) and she was later diagnosed with hypoglycemia. They have also each had covid before and I know there is also argument that covid can be the cause of some of these issues too. I don’t think even if I suspect the vaccine, I will ever get an answer that I’m not suspicious of.

What Patty said. There have been reports that the vaccines and boosters may have caused these sorts of problems. Get her to your doctor and then to the specialist as soon as you can. I’ll keep y’all in my prayers. She’s quite a stunning young woman, by the way…

Thank you! It has been so sad to see the number of athletes reported in the news that are struggling with new heart and asthma conditions. We’ll definitely keep digging on this!
