This summer I decided to become a gardener. I don’t know what got into me, I happened to grow a tomato plant in a pot last summer and that was enough to convince me I must be a natural.
The side of our house has been a wasteland of gravel for 20 years and I figured it was high time we get some use out of it.
So I ordered one raised garden bed at a time from Amazon, filled it with soil and added whatever plants I could think of.
Tomatoes, peppers, pumpkin, radishes, watermelon, canteloupe, onions…just loaded them in! I even added little lime tree, lemon tree, lavender tree, blueberry and blackberry bushels to my collection!
When I got tired of boring old vegetables, I added flower beds as end caps. One side for Dahlias and the other side for Peonies.
I loved the flower beds so much that I added a Begonia patch and then some random wildflower seeds that have not quite made their full debut yet.
We also have a weird deck that was built into the side of the house. We can access it from a sliding glass door, but the deck is completely closed in and it faces the gravel wasteland so we have never gotten any use out of it.
I thought it would be easier to access my little garden space if it had stairs, so we added stairs!
And then made it cute.
I’m thinking next spring I’ll add another row of raised beds directly next to the house where you see all my garden paraphernalia sitting to utilize mor00000e of the space. I might also put down woodchips for a cozier pathway. And then I’ll tackle the backyard wasteland. But for now, I’m quite pleased with the progress!
