4. Write a blog post inspired by the word: final
Back in April I shared that we fostered our 10th Greyhound Jordan. He was so sweet and it was a really great way to spend those first days of our quarantine, but we did have to say goodbye to him. He was actually adopted by someone who lives nearby and I have seen him out on walks now twice!
In early June we were asked to foster again and this time the load of dogs coming in was the largest load the group I volunteer for has ever received. They had to reach out to all of their fosters and potential adopters. I actually considered fostering two just to help out…I have to say I’m glad I did not go that route. As sweet as these dogs are, they are pretty big and fostering even just one comes with its challenges.
We welcomed foster Roman and have spent the last three weeks getting to know him! They say Roman was aptly named for his very dignified snout. It took us a minute to get used to it since they’re noses are usually very long and slender. His personality quickly moved him into my top five favorite hounds and I think after spending this much time with him I may have to rank him #2 right under my precious Winter. No dog will beat Winter, but man is Roman a sweetheart. A Class “A” clinger, but when he’s fully charged he has lots of playful puppy energy.
Roman had a meet up with potential adopter on June 15th, they fell in love and his adoption was finalized this past weekend. I brought him to his new family tonight and said my final goodbye. They are thrilled! They have owned two Greyhounds previously and their most recent dog passed away a few months ago. Roman will fill that empty spot in their house and I’m sure he will love all of the attention he gets from them.
As for me, I am breathing a sigh of relief. As much as I loved Roman I did have gates up to block off an entry to our stairs, an entry to our living room and an entry to the laundry/bathroom. It feels quite nice not to have to climb over those gates to get to where I need to go. Not only that, but Mr. Roman is a howler if he thinks you’ve deserted him. The other morning I left to run some errands and Pat thought I was downstairs blowing on a conch to get the dogs barking. He said all of the dogs were out of their minds screaming and howling, but as it turns out the “conch” shell was Roman. I told you he was a clinger!
Now I’m just going to hang tight for some kittens!

You ought to send the third picture to Boop My Nose on Instagram. He has the kind of nose (since his name is Roman, maybe we can describe it as “aquiline”) you just want to boop.
I’m sure you miss him, but it sounds like you’ll see him a lot. So, you say more kittens are in your future?

He does have a very boopable nose! I got to see some pictures of Roman in his new home and it looks like he’s settling in well with his new family. Very nice to see! I saw a request for a foster home to take in a litter of kittens with tapeworm, but I don’t know if I’m up for that. You really have to be on your sanitization game when tapeworm is involved.

Aw. What a sweet boy! I know it had to be hard to say goodbye, but such a relief to know he went to a family that was a great fit for him. My April (Dachshund) is a howler, too. And a clinger. And she has greater lung capacity than Michael Phelps, because she can go at full volume ALL NIGHT LONG if she’s separated from a human.
I look forward to learning all about the next batch of kittens you foster!

So, are we to assume that you have a conch on which occasionally blow?
Roman sounds like a great addition to his new family. I love the brindle coat!

Pat bought two giant shells at a garage sale. The only thing I could think of was that he thought I was trying to blow on them?? I love how that was the first thing to come to his mind instead of any of the three dogs howling.

aww what a sweety.

Oh, the “howlers”! Our daughter, and her dog-walking/boarding business, has a few of these moaners-groaners as doggy clients. Love each one of them but…if there is any degree of separation between a human and one of them, the drama ensues!
I’m certain that Roman will enjoy a wonderful life and…kudos to you for being there to help him get there!
Stay safe!

I have a friend who actually had to stop with the dog walking service because the when the walker left it started his howly experience all over again. lol
