4. Write a blog post inspired by the word: bright.
While driving the girls home I hit a curb and nervously mumbled, “Ohhhh dear…” to which Laina responded “WHERE!?!?”
Some of my favorite friends in the world are the ones who are just so innocently flighty, they don’t even understand why everyone is laughing. It’s not that they aren’t bright, it’s just that they say exactly what comes to mind first and keep us all on our toes.
“No Laina, not an actual deer! That was a curb I hit and I said ‘oh dear’…like oh dear I hit a curb”
When Pat suggested we “rough it” next time we’re in Hawaii and camp with nothing but sleeping bags on the beach, Laina was baffled, “what like a homeless man??”
She gave me a big hug before leaving for school the other day and after a deep inhale said, “Your hair smells like the thrift store.”
When she returned, she kept “trust falling” in front of me. I asked her if she does that at school and she said “No…too dangerous.”
When Maile asked Laina about her Instagram post, Laina’s first response was, “Did you unblock yourself from my phone??”
She watched 30 seconds of my weekly vlog on YouTube and then got bored with it. BORED WITH HER OWN LIFE.
This child has kept me smiling for her entire childhood and in May she officially took one giant step into her teenage years. She was all, “Hate to break it to you mom, but we’ll all be moving out someday.”
I don’t know if that revelation jabbed as hard as she hoped it would…part of me wouldn’t mind turning her room into a studio office for myself. Plenty of natural light. ;)
Happy Birthday to my bright, beautiful, thoughtful and funny 13 year old Lollipop! Your version of 13 doesn’t scare me. Yet.
You turned three.
You turned four.
You turned five.
You turned six.
You turned seven.
You turned eight.
You turned nine.
You turned ten.
You turned eleven.
You turned twelve.

Mary and I never had kids, so I missed all of this. Happy 13th to her (it was last month, wasn’t it?). At the risk of sounding like a dirty old man, she’s adorable.
