2. What dish do you look forward to preparing for Thanksgiving. Share the recipe!
This year is going to be the first year that I actually prepare a Thanksgiving dinner! One of the meal subscription services I order from was offering a Thanksgiving Box complete with a Turkey and all the sides to feed up to 12 people. I knew it was too much food for my family of five, but I thought it would be fun to film so I ordered it anyway.
My mom is always our family hostess, but as luck would have it she is traveling this Thanksgiving and arriving back home ON Thanksgiving Day. Looks like my Thanksgiving Box is going to come in handy after all! My sister and I are going to cook it all up and are accepting all prayers since we really have zero plan of attack.
That being said, I am bringing a lovely Sparkling Christmas Spritzer! Out of the 200 drink videos I’ve made on YouTube, there are a few that become staples. In order to make it into my short list of delicious drinks to make at home they have to meet certain criteria:
1. They have to be easy to make.
I need a drink that does not require a stovetop or a blender or too many bottles. So as delicious as the Blackberry Bramble and Long Island Ice Tea and Strawberry Daquiri might be…they’re too involved and will not make my short list.
2. They have to be delicious.
Not just delicious to me, but I’m talking a fan favorite. Delicious to everyone I have prepared them for. A recipe that people follow up about and ask how to make it.
3. I have to have the ingredients on hand.
Any drink on my short list cannot have aromatic bitters or some specific flavor of vodka. I need normal ingredients that I more than likely always have on hand and chocolate-strawberry flavored vodka is not one of them.
4. They have to be pretty.
A drink with raspberries bouncing around or a beautiful color or a little sprig of something added to it makes me happy to be drinking it, so it’s a requirement.
My Sparkling Christmas Spritzer meets all of these requirements and it was actually one of the first drinks I ever made on YouTube. How’s this for a throwback?:
(video here)
Sparkling Christmas Spritzer:
- 1 Can Frozen Cranberry Concentrate (just a couple scoops from)
- 1 Liter 7UP
- 1 Bottle Sparkling Wine
- Cranberries to garnish
Just add everything to a pitcher and enjoy! I did tell my brother to bring vodka this year just to liven things up a bit until Mom gets home. She’ll be so pleased. ;)
John Holton says
You’ve never made Thanksgiving dinner? We used to go all out with the turkey and sides, then we realized we don’t like turkey that much and it’s a pain to cook, so we go easy, with everything prepackaged and ready to go. Takes Mary about 30 minutes to prepare everything (it would take less time if the Breville oven wasn’t on the same circuit as the microwave). In any event, I’ll be thinking about you and praying that all goes well. Happy Thanksgiving to you, Pat and the kids!
