4. Write a blog post inspired by the word: light
When Laina was six I wrote on her birthday about how one of my favorite things about her was how she would throw kisses at me from the window of her school bus. Ten years later and she’s ready for a car of her own. I mean, she would need a mother to sign her up for driver’s ed first…but she’s old enough!
She’s also old enough to have a boyfriend and a debit card and order door dash. She gets her nails done and keeps her room clean and wears makeup. She is the first one in line for my crunchwrap supremes and she’s skipping the meal altogether if any sort of sausage is involved.
And even though she gets awfully grumpy when she’s tired and hungry, she still gives the best hugs and makes me laugh every single day. I never imagined that my girls might grow up to have meaningful, adult-like conversations and that they would genuinely crack me up, but here we are.
I have always said Laina is a little light. Her giggles and smiles have been brightening our world since she was just a tiny thing. Very fitting since her name is a derivative of Elaina which means “Sun ray or shining light”. She is both and I love every minute of her.
Happy 16th birthday Laina!

Kat,
How sweet! They do grow up faster than you could ever imagine possible. Still to this day, I remember women telling how boring it would be to be a SAHM. I found that to be a huge lie. Life at home with kids is anything but boring and my kids brought me so much light and happiness into my world. I’m sure your baby is ooing over this post. If she isn’t tell her she’s suppose to. lol But, I kind of think she probable loves every. single. word. you penned in this beautiful birthday tribute to your darlin’ little sun ray. Thanks for hosting the writing workshop. You’re so good with your contributions that I’m almost too embarrassed for others to read my sorry segment. Have a good day and birthday wishes to the birthday girl!!
