5. Throwback Thursday: Choose a photo from a previous August and write a poem or a blog post.
Ten years ago in August of 2013, I wrote a blog post about nine year old Maile complaining about how bad things always happen to her. She was referring to the possibility she might have to wear braces and the fact that I wouldn’t let her watch TV.
I had a hard time qualifying her life problems as substantial enough to put in the “bad things always happen to me” category.
I concluded that even though her problems were little to me, they were still big problems in her world and that I shouldn’t discount her experiences just because my own perspective is different.
I wish I could protect my kids forever from life’s bigger problems. I wish I could protect me forever from life’s bigger problems too.
Currently my family is stuck in a spiral of health issues that started with my older brother being checked into the hospital last Thursday for “possible dehydration” but turned into brain surgery this week.
To complicate matters he and three family members (including Kainoa) came down with a case of covid. Not to mention, Laina had her own health crisis that landed her in the same emergency room my brother had been transferred from just hours before.
Ten years ago I concluded my blog post by pointing out how I appreciated that Maile’s “biggest problems” were fairly trivial. I knew from personal experience that if there’s one thing life will teach you it’s that things can always get worse.
I’m glad I took a moment to enjoy that the problems were small back then and I look forward to getting back to the headspace!
Now it’s your turn!
Choose a prompt, post it on your blog, and come back to add your name to the link list below. Be sure to sign up with the actual post URL and not just your basic blog URL (click on the title of your post for that URL). For good comment karma try to comment on the three blogs above your name!!
The Prompts:
1. Write about your favorite dessert.
2. Show us the last photo you took and let it inspire a blog post.
3. Tell us about what you have enjoyed most about summer so far.
4. Write a blog post inspired by the word: fun.
5. Throwback Thursday: Choose a photo from a previous August and write a poem or a blog post.

Let me first offer my prayers for healing for your brother and family.
I’m with you on wishing we, as parents, could always surround our kids and family with a layer of protection; easier said than done. Somehow, we all manage to get through, as best we can, and take a little comfort that we made it over life’s endless hurdles.

Wow, lots going on and not in a good way. Wishing you back to that headspace, and soon.

How do you get from dehydration to brain surgery? Prayers for him and the Covid patients…
