4. Are you shopping online more now that we’re in quarantine? Share some of your recent purchases.
We are currently in week six of no school for my kids and one of the things keeping us sane at home are the online purchases we have been making. We’re certainly doing our part to keep the economy together! I know my friends with younger kids are stocking up on bubbles, sidewalk chalk and puzzles…but over here I’ve got other things in mind. Here is what I’ve been purchasing from my computer (affiliate links included):
1. Goodies for Harper
Harper has not been able to come over since her mom was diagnosed with Covid. At this point she is actually clear of Covid and has tested negative twice, but she is still very sick. The residual effects of this virus have been lingering well beyond what any of us imagined. Since I’m not needed for childcare, I’ve been swinging by with goodies to leave at her doorstep including Keto fruit snacks, color books and stuffed animals.
2. Google Chromecast
This was my first Quarantine purchase. We don’t have cable anymore and I’ve been watching Netflix from my phone while I work occasionally. I was telling a friend that I really don’t have the patience to figure out how to do all the streaming services, but that it would be nice to watch some shows on an actual TV again. She recommended a Google Chromecast. It was around $35 for the 3rd generation version and the instructions were super simple. I attached the Chromecast to my TV, downloaded the app and followed instructions to get my phone to communicate to the Chromecast. And now? Almost anything I watch from my phone can be cast to my TV and I can continue using my phone for other purposes while I watch. SO glad I got this!
3. Netflix and Hulu
I was already using my friend’s password to access Netflix, but I jumped on the train and started my own account. I also bought Hulu for access to movies for my kids and Amazon Prime offers streaming services for members already. Now that I don’t have to get up early to take my kids to school, I’ve been staying up late watching three years worth of TV shows that I’ve missed.
4. Loreal Magic Root Cover Up
I had a hair appointment that was canceled due to the Stay Home order and I’ve had to get creative. I bought Magic Root Cover Up and it’s like magic. I take about 10 years off of my head every time I give it a spray!
5. Breakfast Sandwich Maker
I saw someone a friend on Facebook use this Breakfast Sandwich Maker and it looked so fun. You just stick half an English Muffin on the bottom pan, top it with cheese and meat, pull the second tray down, add an egg and your other English Muffin slice and then wait four minutes! A perfect, delicious breakfast sandwich is created and it’s fun enough that Kainoa will make himself his own damn breakfast! That’s a win.
6. PAINT!
I have some home DIY projects that have long been ignored. Before the quarantine, my sister was coming over to help kick me into gear. She started helping me organize and prep the area I use as my office. At one point in time, the space was a little kitchen and art section for my home daycare, but it’s been years and while the daycare has closed, the bright yellow walls in this room remain. I have purchased paint to finally make some progress on it! It spurred me to also paint the stair hallway AND I pulled all of the carpet up from the stairs. I will be adding new carpet to my list of quarantine purchases very soon!
7. A Rug
Along with the kitchen area, I also need to update the “playroom.” It was the main section for the daycare and it has been stuck in little kid zone ever since. I need adult furniture, fresh paint, and an all-around adult vibe. I bought a giant throw rug to cover that space. Ultimately the carpet beneath should actually be replaced, but for now I’m covering it with something light and fresh! Yet another purchase inspired by my sister!
8. Clothes
It’s not like I have anywhere to go, but if I’m going to spend my days pacing this house and slapping paint all over the walls, I might as well dress for the occasion.
What quarantine purchases have you made??

Fortunately, those ten years you take off your head aren’t cumulative…
Do you think you might move your office to the room heretofore known as the playroom? Looks ideal to me.
Chromecast looks like a good solution if you aren’t in the mood to try and figure out Roku or Fire TV. We’re currently waiting for our TV (one of those old picture tube types) to die so we can justify getting a new TV with Roku onboard. In the meantime, Mary watches Britbox on her iPad and I watch broadcast TV on my desktop (which has a 22″ monitor) using Locast. I have Hulu (there was a deal with Spotify a while back), but haven’t used it…

I don’t want to move to the play room because that’s where Kainoa is positioned with his gaming set up and he already hurts my ears. I’ll stay in the kitchen! One of the reasons I didn’t have any streaming set up on my TV is because I had no idea what all those things were. Roku? Fire TV? Hulu? Where do you even begin? The little gadget I got is going to be like a gateway drug to the rest of the viewing world.
