4. Write a blog post inspired by the word: hopeful
My stupid bully big brother has glioblastoma brain cancer. We’ve spent the last month in emergency mode after a coworker found him disoriented at home. We were initially told he was “dehydrated” but his emergency room scans showed a mass on his brain. Although it’s not hereditary, this is the exact same cancer my Dad died from so naturally it has triggered all of our PTSD and my brother feels terrible about it. Add it to our life list of “this isn’t really happening” moments, directly below #2 where our step dad also died of cancer and above #4 where our mom was diagnosed with cancer (she is cancer free now otherwise she’d be higher on the list). And actually she just quietly treated it with radiation so I’ll move her to the #5 spot and my other brother’s brain injury can move to the #4 spot. Fun game! My big bully brother assured us that he’s tougher than our dad and will beat it and we are hopeful that will be the case.
My siblings, mom and I have been spending the past few weeks sneaking his dog into the hospital and sitting bedside while my brother yaps nonstop about his favorite bands and pretty nurses.
He passed his brain surgery with flying colors and “recovered” at a physical therapy rehab facility before heading home to get started on radiation and chemo treatments soon. It’s been hard being so nice to him. I want to go back to arguing about vaccines, religion and politics as soon as possible.

Prayers for your brother and you and yours. That’s terrible news. Don’t give up hope: they’re doing some amazing things now and your brother sounds like a real fighter.

Thank you! It’s not lost on us what a fight he’s going to need to put up for this. He said he’s ready to battle.

Ugh, thinking of you and your family. Glad to see you’re still writing after all this time.

My prayers for your family have become a priority, Kat.
I hope that God’s good and gentle graces shine down on your brother and bring much healing.
Also keeping positive thoughts for continued political and religious debates, a good sign of a return to normalcy.

Thank you! We are definitely happy he’s managed to keep his humor through all this.
